The School of Art was founded in 1999. Currently it has 30 faculty members, 30% of whom are lecturers or professors.

The School offers three undergraduate programs: the Science of Music, the Science of Fine Arts and Art Design. Currently it has a student body of 484. In the past five years the university has invested over 6 million RMB Yuan on the construction of the Art Building—whose usable floor area amounts to 4,000 square meters—as well as on the purchase of necessary equipment and instruments, which has greatly improved the conditions of the department.

Programs offered

Science of Music (a four-year BA program)

Objectives:to provide students with sound professional knowledge and skills in the field of music, to equip them with the ability to make plans for and organize various cultural activities related to music, and to enable them to become qualified music teachers and competent music workers in various cultural and art institutions.

Courses offered:Piano, Vocal Music, Music Theory, Singing, Dancing, Chorus Conducting, History of Music in China and Foreign Countries, Song Composition, Accordion.

Science of Fine Arts (a four-year BA program)

Objectives:to provide students with sound professional knowledge and skills in the field of fine arts, to equip them with the ability to make plans for and organize various cultural activities related to fine arts, and enable them to become qualified fine-arts teachers and competent fine-art workers in various cultural and art institutions.

Courses offered:Sketching, Colors, Line Drawing, Decorative Painting, Illustration, Engraving Art, The History of Fine Arts, An Introduction to Art, Sketching, Design Basics.

After completion of the first two years of study of the above courses, fine arts majors may focus on any of Chinese Painting, Oil Painting, Watercolor and Art Design.

Art Design (a four-year BA program)

Objectives:to equip students with sound knowledge and skills in art design and enable them to be competent for such work as three-dimensional design and art design.

Courses offered:Three Dimensions and Color, History of Design, An Introduction to Design, Application of Design Software (CorelDraw, Photoshop, 3DMAX), Three Dimensional Animation Design, Movie Making, Website Design, Clothing Design, Advertisement Design, CI Design, Packing Design.

After completion of the first two years of study of the above courses, art design majors may focus on any of Graphic Design, Environment Art Design and Animation Making.

Science of Dancing (a four-year BA program)

Objectives:to train students to be equipped with the basic theory and skills in dancing, and to become qualified dancing teachers and competent dancing workers in schools, local art troupes, businesses and government departments where such professional personnel are needed.

Courses offered:Basics of Ballet, Teaching Methodology of Ballet, Basic Music Theory, Field Nebula, Vocal Music, Piano, Basics of Classical Dancing, Chinese Folk Dancing, Northern Shaanxi Folk Dancing, Northern Shaanxi Music, A Survey of Art, History of Chinese and Foreign Dancing, etc.

Preschool Education (a four-year BA program)

Objectives:to train students to be equipped with the knowledge and skills in pre-education, and to become qualified teachers in kindergartens, nurseries, etc.

Courses offered:Preschool Pedagogy, Children Development Psychology, History of Chinese and Foreign Education, Family Pedagogy, Fine Arts, Music, Piano, Dancing, Educational Activity Design in Kindergartens, Kindergarten Environment Creation, Children’s Game Theory, Testing Technology of Children’s Psychology, etc.
