ShaanxiProvincial Engineering and Technology Research Center
for Shaanbei Cashmere Goats
The Shaanxi Provincial Engineering and Technology Research Center for Shaanbei Cashmere Goatsis the first provincial-level engineering and technology research center to be founded in Yulin Univeristy, as well as being the first in Yulin City. Approved by The Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology, it was established as part of The Yulin University Center forLife Science Research and The Yulin MunicipalEngineering and Technology Research Center for Shaanbei Cashmere Goats. The Center has five labs covering a building area of 1,000m2. They include The Lab for Molecule and Cell Biology, The Lab for Epidemic Disease Testing, The Lab for Analysis of Cashmere Wool Fibers, The Lab for Analysis of Animal Nutrition and Feedstuff and The Lab for Animal Breeding. In addition, The Center is equipped with a number of large-scale instruments, including a cashmere fiber analysis instrument, a scanning electron microscope, a PCR instrument, a gel imaging system, a high-speed freezing centrifuge, aCO2incubator, a fluorescence inverted microscope, a super pure water instrument, a freeze microtome, a freeze dryer, a pregnancyB-ultrasounddiagnosis instrument and a embryo transplantation instrument.
The Center is now conducting research in the following areas:
(1) Selecting and multiplying purebred cashmere goats; exploring the optimal mode of raising Shaanbei cashmere goats in view of the local feed resources; developing feedstuff formula especially for the Shaanbei cashmere goats; formulating standardized instructions regarding how to raise cashmere goats in captivity; and popularizing artificial insemination and other techniques.
(2) Formulating measures to prevent the various epidemic diseases of cashmere goats;
(3) Studying the relationship between raising Shaanbei cashmere goats and developing
the ecological economy in the Yulin area, as well as the development mode of the Shaanbei cashmere goat industry and the processing of Shaanbei cashmere goat products.
